It was love at first friend request. After receiving an e-mail about tutoring, Noel noticed that she and one other boy were certified to tutor students – she could take all history classes, and he could take all science classes. After several exchanges of Facebook messages, at first talking about academics and then exchanging awkward flirty compliments, the two were excited to finally meet face-to-face. To Noel’s disappointment, however, Freddy was a stud. And Noel doesn’t know how to deal with studs. She panicked, trying to get over how to actually SPEAK to him. She still prefers Facebook messages. |

Much to her dismay, Noel has been assigned to tutor Eric in history for the past year. He has been her most faithful tutoree – and her worst. He has no problems with calling her “Bones,” making comments about how skinny she is, or even making fun of the French Revolution. The FRENCH REVOLUTION, for God’s sake! The thing is, Noel would much rather pass him off to another tutor, but she has vowed that she will turn Eric into a changed man. He will be able to transfer to a decent school and then go to graduate school. That much, Noel is determined to do. |

It's a huge surprise when he actually speaks and comes up with the most witty things to say out of any of them. Sometimes in foreign languages, depending on the day. He knows at least two of these. He's smart, and everyone knows that, but he doesn't test very well which is why he's stuck in community college where he is trying to meet girls but ends up sort of stalking them instead. | boy seven | Illnesses beget drugs, drugs beget illness, as Boy Seven has found out. A long time ago. He has OCD and depression. But he's learned that certain illicit substances help. Sadly, that means he always seems to be bouncing back and forth between rehab and a psychiatric facility. On the outside, he obviously appears perfectly normal. Well. When he's on his meds and in a clean phase. Otherwise, his sympotms become clear. His friends all like him anyway. Especially his long time best friend, boy six. (19, non student, native) |
| boy eight | From what Boy One (his little brother) seems to say, boy eight is the most ridiculously flamboyant gay man ever to come across planet earth. But the thing is,he's not. At all. Actually he's pretty normal. Or, he would be, if his older brother would finally grow up. But he hasn't yet. So boy eight isn't holding his breath. They live together if only because boy eight doesn't know what would happen if he moved away. As it is, he goes to school to get out of town while working in the same fast food joint as girl 8 because it's a job, and boy one isn't getting money anytime soon. | boy nine | Boy nine reached his peak about five years ago at age 15 when his band from high school won battle of the bands and his drumming career set off sky-high. Well. He thought it would, anyway. In reality, he wasn't as good as he thought, and he ended up never leaving Ewing. He's still trying to find projects, though, and break into the industry. No one but agents have the guts to tell him that it isn't the climate. It's him. He's not so talented. (20, nonstudent, moved from somewhere else at age 2) |

Noel is too proud to admit anything. One of the things she is too proud to admit is that she needs help. Mal has tried everything to hint at getting Noel some help to keep her healthy, but Noel won’t have it. At the same time, Noel knows that Mal isn’t as perfect as she wants everyone to think she is. They both struggle with keeping their lives a secret, and though they both want to help each other, they’re both too proud to admit that anything is wrong. Noel knows one thing: she’ll always keep Mal as a friend, even through rough times. |
